Are the 7 Elements of Effective Compliance Enough for Compliance 2.0?

On January 31, 2005, the OIG published its guidance on the Seven Elements for Effective Compliance. Since publishing, that guidance has become the foundation of nearly every organization’s compliance program. And rightfully so, it helps organizations develop policies and procedures, has helped us create open and fluid lines of communication, mandated regular training, and has brought compliance efforts to the forefront of every healthcare organization.

But are seven elements still enough? The OIG has set the standard for compliance programs. But healthcare constantly evolves so we regularly check-in with our partners and conduct an annual survey to better understand the priorities and anxieties of compliance experts everywhere. From our extensive research, we can see that the core compliance elements have expanded from a mere seven to ten elements.

Tune into our upcoming webinar on March 6, The 10 Elements of an Effective Compliance Program, where we’ll introduce and explain Healthicity’s ten elements of compliance, which are:

  • Risk Assessments
  • Training and Education
  • Developing Workplans
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Incident Monitoring
  • Program Audits
  • Sanction Checking
  • Governance and Oversight
  • Contract Management
  • Executive Reporting
