The Misadventures of Ada: ICD-10 Cartoon, "Bad Breath and Paralyzed Vocal Cords" J38.0

This Saturday, October 31st, had set itself up to be the strangest Halloween on record. While Ada, like so many of us, had spent the last 7 months socially distant from so many of her loved ones, she and her nephew, Charlie, had for weeks been planning a special night together. After all, every year since he could walk, they’d gotten together so she could take him out Trick or Treating. This year, being what it is, they had taken every precaution, to ensure they wouldn’t have to miss their special night. Where she would bring over buckets of candy, make the two of them dinner, and deliver her usually spooky stories. She would be dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West, while Charlie was dressed as the Cowardly Lion.

Earlier in the day she had decided to make her favorite treat of all: Garlic Bread. Though she planned to make it for the two of them to eat later that evening, she couldn’t stop herself from trying her tasty creation.

As Ada began her walk over to see Charlie, the weather began to turn foul, creating the perfect storm and atmosphere for the occasion. First a light rain started, then came the lightning and thunder. As Ada neared the house, she quickly checked her hair and makeup, in the hopes the rain hadn’t dampened them. Then, she checked her breath, making sure the garlic bread she had made and eaten earlier didn’t spoil the night’s activities. “Peeew!” she thought, “But nothing a little breath freshener couldn’t solve.

Except, this being Ada, not all breath freshener is created equally…

We hope you have a Safe and Happy Halloween this year!
