In November of 2017, I attended the annual AMA CPT and RBRVS 2018 Symposium (Whew! What a mouthful!) in Chicago where I learned a ton about the new and revised codes for this year.

One of my favorite speakers, Ing-jye Cheng, from CMS, talked about potential changes to the Medicare guidelines. Another great speaker, Peter A. Hollmann M.D., gave a really entertaining talk about evaluation and management services, new codes and changes as well as the new modifiers. I also learned some really interesting things about plastic surgery from James Waldorf M.D.

In addition to a terrific lineup of speakers, we were given a copy of 2018 CPT® Changes: An Insider’s View. It’s full of updates to the codes. Changes were released by the American Medical Association and with its 10,155 code sets, there was a total of 312 edits. These edits included 170 new codes, 60 revised codes and 82 deleted codes. Additionally, there are two new modifiers.
