Your Guide to the 2025 HCCA Compliance Institute

The HCCA’s annual Compliance Institute (CI) is a hub for all things health care compliance. This year the event will be held in Las Vegas, NV from April 28- May 1, 2025.

The event always has amazing speakers, vendors, networking opportunities, as well as time to play (it is Las Vegas, of course)!

Some highlighted sessions include:

One of Healthicity’s thought leaders, CJ Wolf, will be one of the presenters on Monday, April 28th’ for the session P30: Recent Trends in Physician Compliance Enforcement. The session takes place from 3:00-4:30 pm and also includes Sean McKenna, Partner, Nelson Mullins, and Melissa Scott, Managing Director, BDO USA.

EMR compliance risks are real. In the Risk Management track, session P12: Compliance Risks in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) looks to address common questions such as copy and paste, cloning and use of templates. Two veterans in this space, Sandy Giangreco Brown and Christine Hall, will lead us through assessing compliance risks associated with the EMR.

Privacy and Security are always key topics of discussion at HCCA’s CI, and this year will be no exception. Some sessions that look promising include:

  • P2: Is your Network Secure? Tips for Understanding and Assessing Network Vulnerabilities That Cybercriminals Use to Compromise Your Electronic Data
  • P10: Key Challenges in Health Care Privacy
  • Privacy Officer Roundtable: Part 1 (session P24) and Part 2 (session P32)
  • GS2 GENERAL SESSION: What You Should Change Following the Change Healthcare Incident: Lessons Learned and Strategies to Consider
  • 106: HIM, Privacy, and Compliance as the Triumvirate of Proper Release of Information Practices
  • 202: New Developments in Health Information Privacy
  • 306: Tales from the Privacy Crypt… How Did That Happen??

Government speakers are frequently conference favorites. This year, it is notable that speakers from OIG, DOJ and/or OCR (which we are accustomed to hearing from) are absent from the schedule. However, one impressive speaker from the government is on the schedule. That is Kim Brandt, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Administrator, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). She is scheduled to speak in session 601 and General Session (GS) 1. She is a speaker you will not want to miss.

There is a session scheduled for discussion of the new OIG Compliance Program Guidance Documents. Though the speakers are not currently OIG representatives, one of the speakers for this session recently left OIG and participated in the team that is updating OIG’s compliance program guidance and co-authored the Nursing Facility Industry Segment-Specific Compliance Program Guidance. Surely, she has significant insights to share about these newer guidance documents as well as those that are about to come forth in the near future.

Many attendees find the networking opportunities one of the greatest benefits of the conference. Outside of the normal opportunities to network, there is a formal “Speed Networking” activity scheduled. It is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 28 from 12:00-1:00 pm. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited, so register early to secure your spot. The event is designed to be a fun and fast-paced way to network. You should leave the session with new compliance contacts and connections. A light lunch will be provided.

Valuable networking also takes place at the Exhibit Hall. Meet peers and solution providers who can help you overcome the challenges your compliance program is facing. Healthicity, of course, will be there at Booth 319! We hope you come by, say hello, and explore the compliance solutions we offer.

Enjoy the conference and soak up all the compliance knowledge you can.
