By investing in personal professional growth, leaders can obtain the knowledge and tools to foster cultures that lead to more satisfied and engaged patients and staff. To effectively manage an organization, leaders need to stay current on the trends and happenings within the industry. Leaders who don’t develop their own knowledge and skills can’t grow an organization and lead it effectively into the future.

And, of course, effective leaders invest in their staff.

Developing a strong and engaged workforce does pay off. Staff is directly connected to the success — or failure — of an organization, especially in healthcare, where many staff members have direct patient contact. Effective leaders want staff members who are engaged and accountable to interact and provide care to patients. Organizations need to retain great staff members and coach others whose work performance is not meeting expectations.
