Everyone is talking (and panicking) about Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs) lately and for good reason: HCCs are progressively being applied to numerous healthcare reform initiatives and it’s pretty confusing.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service’s (CMS) Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) risk adjustment model is used to calculate risk scores, which will adjust capitated payments made for aged and disabled beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage (MA) and other plans.
Understanding the different types of HCCs, how MIPS comes into play, and the many potential risks can be a little overwhelming considering how many other responsibilities you’re charged with every day.
