Ah, the age-old question: who is responsible for compliance?
Answers vary from the compliance officer to each individual employee -- and all do play a critical role -- but the ultimate responsibility rests with an organization’s executive leadership and the governing board (if there is one).
The Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General's recently released General Compliance Program Guidance explains, “To be effective, a compliance program should have a board and senior leadership that understand its value and are committed to its success.”
