For over 22 years we’ve all been forced to use the same flawed E/M calculations. While the 1995 E/M guidelines are too vague, I find the 1997 guidelines too inflexible - not to mention they don’t even support every specialty (hello, Podiatry.)
On top of that, there are still grey areas around History of Present Illness and Medical Decision Making that leave physicians, coders, and auditors confused and prone to inconsistent coding patterns. In fact, around here, we often joke about how if you got 20 coders in a room and asked each one of them the exact same question, you’d get 20 different answers.
But as you know by now, that is all about to change.

The idea was to make them clinically relevant and reduce the excessive documentation burden. And now, those new 2021 E/M calculations are set to go into effect January 1, 2021! So, to help you prepare, join us for our upcoming webinar, “Everything You Should Know About the 2021 E/M Changes (But were too afraid to ask),” where I’ll help you:
