Manual Processes, Lean Teams, and AI Pressure: What the 2025 Auditing Data Reveals

Healthcare auditing programs are stable, mature, and operationally active, but the data suggests many organizations are approaching a critical modernization point.

In Healthicity’s 2025 Annual Auditing Checkup Report, respondents rated overall audit program effectiveness at 7.42 out of 10, nearly identical to previous years. At the same time, many audit workflows remain highly manual.

Nearly half of organizations still do not use dedicated auditing software, and 70% report that their audit processes are only 0–25% automated.

Operational pressure is also growing. Limited staffing and resource constraints were identified as the top barriers to audit efficiency, while AI adoption and automation are rapidly emerging as both opportunities and risks.

The findings suggest healthcare auditing is shifting beyond retrospective review toward a more proactive, technology-enabled approach focused on scalability, defensibility, and strategic risk intelligence.
