The Misadventures of Ada: ICD-10 Cartoon, "Florida Swamp Tour" W58.01
Ada has always loved a good adventure so when one of her friends invited her on a Florida swamp tour she jumped at the chance to get an up-close and personal look at all the creatures that bobbed and slithered through the warm wetlands. After all, she grew up watching Crocodile Dundee and had dreamed of the day she, too, would get to see an alligator or crocodile in real life.
The boat tour left early in the morning and Ada and her friend were careful to get their first so they could get the best spots on the little airboat. Dressed as an adventurer in khakis and a genuine Akubra hat shipped all the way from Australia, Ada took her place at the head of the boat where she could get the best view of the swamp. The tour guide fired up the engine and the boat cruised through the marsh, whizzing through cattails, Ada’s hair blew in the wind. The rest of the tour group was huddled around the Todd, the tour guide, who was explaining something about a type of moss.
“I think I see one over yonder!” Ada said, looking out into the distance, her hand above her eyes to block the sun.
Todd yelled into his megaphone, “So up ahead we’ll turn off the engine and hopefully you’ll get to see an Alligator!”
“Oooooh!” the tourists said in unison.
An alligator popped up near the boat and Ada was the first to spot it. “There she is, what a beaut!” She said while leaning over the side and pointing.
“It looks like a young female!” Said Todd.
The other tourists moved to the side of the boat to get a better look at the magical prehistoric animal, rocking it from side to side. Ada screamed as she lost her balance and tumbled over the rail.
Ada’s friend and Todd grabbed her arms and were pulling her out of the murky water when the little gator latched onto the toe of her boot. Eventually, she let go and they were able to pull Ada onto the deck. Ada lay sprawled out on the deck, covered in random vegetation and soaking wet. Todd grabbed his walkie talkie, “Looks like one of our passengers has been bitten by a gator….”
