OIG Reviews of States’ Oversight of Opioids

In a series of reviews, the OIG is studying the oversight that certain states are providing regarding opioid prescribing and monitoring of opioid use.

The U.S. Department of Justice has recently announced another location for a Medicare Fraud Strike Force.  This newest location is the Newark/Philadelphia Regional Medicare Fraud Strike Force.

Often times, it’s only the biggest dollar amount settlements that make the headlines in healthcare compliance.

A few weeks ago, we reported on testimony the OIG provided on Capitol Hill regarding Medicaid overpayments and fraud.

HIPAA fines have been known to decimate an organization's finances. Just this month, MD Anderson was slammed with a devastating $4.3 million fine for violating the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules by failing to encrypt many of its devices. 

The OIG continues its voice of concern over opioid overutilization and misuse in the context of Medicare and Medicaid.
