Hi, I’m CJ Wolf, I’m Healthicity’s Senior Compliance Executive, and we’re talking about seven tips that every Compliance Officer should know. Tip number five is bedside manners matter. Now I use that term because I’m trained as a physician, and we often hear of physicians with good and bad bedside manners. What that means is you can know a lot, and every doctor needs to know and be competent from a professional standpoint, but just because you’re competent and have knowledge doesn’t mean you work well with people, it doesn’t mean you have a good bedside manner. As a compliance officer, it’s really important to be able to work with people, to interact with people, and to like people. You can’t just be a person that everybody just says “Oh, they’re just the department of No, and don’t ever go to them because they’re just going to tell you No, and don’t admit anything to them because they will just create grief in your life.” That’s not really the case, good bedside manners can matter in a compliance department, and can matter in your compliance role, either as a compliance officer or a compliance professional.
