What Compliance Teams Need to Know About HIPAA and Information Blocking

Quick – which organization comes to mind when we say HIPAA?

If you thought of the Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) before thinking about the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), you’re in good company – most compliance professionals are in that boat, since the OCR enforces HIPAA.

But the OIG isn’t out of the picture completely. The organization released their General Compliance Program Guidance document where they emphasized the importance of HIPAA compliance. They even dedicated a subsection of the document to this important law and its corresponding rules, where they wrote: “With increasing numbers of cybersecurity attacks aimed at HIPAA-regulated entities of all sizes, compliance with Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rule requirements should be a top compliance priority and included in all risk assessments.”

Watch our on-demand webinar, “OIG GCPG: The Importance of HIPAA and Information Blocking,” where we’ll discuss how a compliance program should consider the following areas:

  • HIPAA Privacy
  • HIPAA Security
  • Information Blocking

Presenters: CJ Wolf, MD and Brian Burton, Healthicity Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer
